Social Media Specialist – Kandy

Job Description: Social Media Specialist – Kandy

We are looking for a Social Media Specialist to join our team in Kandy. This role requires someone who understands the daily demands of managing social media channels and can consistently produce clear, engaging, and accurate content. If you’re someone who prefers facts over fluff and is comfortable with both planning and hands-on execution, you may be a good fit for this position.

This isn’t about chasing trends or producing viral content. It’s about knowing your audience, delivering relevant content, and representing the brand with clarity and consistency.

Position Summary

The Social Media Specialist is responsible for managing all public-facing social media accounts for the company. You will handle scheduling, content creation, reporting, and communication across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others as needed. You will work closely with the design and content teams to ensure that messaging is aligned with overall marketing goals.

This role requires a balance between creativity and structure. You’ll need to stick to posting schedules, respond to audience interactions, and maintain a clear brand voice—while also being alert to what’s happening in the wider digital landscape.

Key Responsibilities

1. Content Planning and Scheduling

  • Develop weekly and monthly content calendars across platforms.
  • Work with internal teams to align content with marketing campaigns, events, and promotions.
  • Use scheduling tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Buffer, or similar) to post content on time.

2. Content Creation and Editing

  • Write captions, short-form content, and adapt longer messages for different platforms.
  • Collaborate with designers to ensure visuals match messaging.
  • Edit images, videos, or reels for platform-appropriate formats when needed.

3. Community Engagement

  • Monitor comments, messages, and tags daily across all platforms.
  • Respond to inquiries or escalate them appropriately.
  • Track frequently asked questions or issues and provide weekly summaries to the team.

4. Performance Tracking and Reporting

  • Prepare weekly reports with engagement rates, follower growth, reach, and impressions.
  • Identify which types of content perform well—and which don’t—and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Monitor competitor activity and report on relevant observations.

5. Platform Management

  • Maintain up-to-date information on all social media profiles.
  • Ensure consistent branding across all platforms.
  • Stay informed of platform changes (e.g., algorithm updates, new tools) and adapt tactics when necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Marketing, Communications, Media, or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience managing social media accounts in a professional or internship setting.
  • Solid understanding of Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Proficiency with social media management tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Later).
  • Comfortable using basic design tools like Canva or Photoshop for quick edits.
  • Ability to write clear and concise content in English. Sinhala and/or Tamil is a bonus.

Preferred Attributes

  • Strong sense of organization and attention to detail.
  • Able to work within deadlines without needing daily reminders.
  • Willingness to take ownership of daily social media tasks, even if repetitive.
  • Practical understanding of analytics—comfortable with numbers and reporting.
  • Good communication skills across teams and with external collaborators.

Work Conditions

  • Based at our office in Kandy, with regular hours from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
  • Some remote work may be permitted based on performance and schedule.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during campaigns or events.
  • Basic photography or video capture (e.g., phone-based behind-the-scenes content) may be requested occasionally.

What We Expect From You

  • You take ownership of your work and communicate clearly if something is off-track.
  • You don’t wait to be told what’s happening online—you follow, observe, and adapt.
  • You understand that social media is not just “posting”—it’s a mix of timing, messaging, brand awareness, and listening.
  • You’re willing to grow steadily and learn from performance metrics.
  • You understand how your role fits into a bigger team and aren’t afraid of collaborative planning and execution.

What You Can Expect From Us

  • A structured work environment where your role is clearly defined.
  • Reasonable deadlines, clear expectations, and consistent support from senior team members.
  • Access to tools, training materials, and guidance to improve your skills.
  • Feedback that’s honest, useful, and focused on helping you improve—not fluff.
  • An open-door policy when it comes to learning, suggesting improvements, or asking questions.

Who Should Apply

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Has already worked in a social media role (even as an intern) and wants to take the next step.
  • Prefers a clear schedule and defined tasks over vague brainstorming.
  • Understands that performance is not measured in likes alone but in consistency and relevance.
  • Lives in or near Kandy—or is willing to commute and be physically present for planning sessions and coordination.

This job is not ideal for someone looking for a fully remote role or someone who prefers to work in bursts of inspiration rather than following a consistent schedule.

Application Process

To apply, please submit:

  • A current CV with relevant experience and tools/platforms you’ve worked with.
  • A short cover letter (no more than one page) telling us:
    • Why you’re interested in this role.
    • What social platforms you feel most comfortable managing.
    • An example of a brand (local or global) you think handles social media well—and why.
  • Links to social media pages or sample work you’ve managed, if available.
  • Two references (can be academic or professional).

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a short assignment and attend a one-on-one interview, either in person or virtually.
