Social Media Manager – Kandy

Job Description: Social Media Manager – Kandy

We are seeking a capable and practical Social Media Manager to take ownership of our digital presence across key platforms. Based in our Kandy office, this role involves the day-to-day running of social media channels, from content creation and publishing to managing interactions and measuring outcomes. The right person will know how to strike a balance between creativity and consistency, and be able to work with minimal supervision.

This position is ideal for someone who understands that social media is not just about posting frequently—it’s about using content with purpose, reaching the right audience, and staying organized while doing so.

Position Summary:

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for planning, creating, scheduling, and analyzing content across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok. The person in this role will also monitor interactions, respond to messages, and collaborate with internal teams to make sure our brand voice remains consistent.

This is a hands-on role that requires good judgment, attention to detail, and an understanding of what works—and what doesn’t—when communicating online.

You will report directly to the Head of Marketing and work closely with designers, copywriters, and occasionally the customer service team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a social media content calendar that aligns with campaign goals and ongoing activities.
  • Create, edit, and publish engaging content, including images, short videos, and captions tailored to each platform.
  • Monitor social media inboxes, respond to messages and comments, and escalate customer queries when necessary.
  • Track analytics and prepare monthly performance reports covering reach, engagement, and follower growth.
  • Suggest improvements or changes based on audience behavior, feedback, or platform algorithm updates.
  • Stay informed of local and industry trends and propose ideas for timely content.
  • Coordinate with other departments when needed—for example, to share recruitment updates, events, or news.
  • Support paid promotions by providing content, setting basic ad parameters, and tracking outcomes.
  • Protect the brand by reviewing content for accuracy, tone, and suitability before publishing.
  • Handle occasional live coverage of events, either directly or by coordinating with others.

Required Qualifications:

  • A diploma or degree in marketing, communications, media, or a related field.
  • At least 2–3 years of experience managing social media accounts in a professional capacity.
  • Clear writing skills in English and Sinhala (Tamil is a plus).
  • Basic image and video editing abilities (Canva, CapCut, or similar tools).
  • Strong familiarity with Facebook Business Manager, Instagram, and LinkedIn dashboards.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the differences between platforms and how to optimize content for each.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Comfortable working independently and managing your own deadlines.
  • Able to explain decisions with data, not just intuition.
  • Practical approach to design and visuals—no need to be a professional graphic designer, but an eye for balance and clarity is essential.
  • Calm under pressure, especially when responding to comments or inquiries that are sensitive or time-sensitive.
  • Open to feedback and able to adjust based on input from other departments or leadership.
  • Interest in local culture, news, and community trends, especially if they help guide content planning.
  • Familiar with social media regulations, copyright rules, and ethical content use.

Work Conditions:

  • Office-based in Kandy, with standard working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
  • Occasional weekend or evening work may be required for event coverage or content launches.
  • You will have access to a dedicated workspace, necessary software tools, and media equipment when required.
  • You will work with a supportive team, but be expected to manage your own output and timelines.

What We Expect From You:

  • Be consistent and dependable—someone who meets deadlines and follows through on responsibilities.
  • Maintain professionalism online and offline. What you post reflects on the organization.
  • Communicate clearly and avoid jargon when sharing ideas or reports.
  • Think before you post—quality and accuracy matter more than speed.
  • Take initiative. If a post needs fixing, don’t wait to be told—correct it.
  • Understand that engagement isn’t everything. Reach, relevance, and clarity are just as important.
  • Keep your personal opinions and your professional content separate.
  • Be willing to learn as platforms and tools change regularly.

What You Can Expect From Us:

  • A clear job scope and reporting line—you’ll know what is expected of you.
  • An approachable and open leadership team that listens to your suggestions.
  • Access to the tools you need to do your work well, including content calendars, stock image libraries, and ad budgets.
  • Timely payment of salary, annual leave, and contribution to EPF/ETF.
  • Opportunities for short training programs or workshops relevant to your role.
  • Recognition of effort. We see and value consistent performance, even when it’s behind the scenes.

Who Should Apply:

  • You live in or near Kandy and are looking for a long-term role with room to grow.
  • You have handled social media accounts before and are comfortable being responsible for both success and errors.
  • You care about how your work reflects on a brand and don’t cut corners.
  • You are more interested in meaningful impact than simply chasing likes or followers.
  • You can work within a team, but do not require micromanagement to stay on track.
  • You enjoy writing, editing, and curating visuals—even if it’s not always glamorous.

Avoid applying if:

  • You cannot work on-site in Kandy or are expecting full remote work.
  • You are looking for a role focused only on strategy without hands-on content creation.
  • You are easily frustrated by feedback or corrections.

Application Process:

To apply, please send the following to careers@[companydomain].lk:

  1. A CV that includes your contact details, education, and previous work experience.
  2. A short cover letter (max one page) explaining why you are interested in this role.
  3. At least two examples of social media content you have created—this can be a screenshot, link, or portfolio.
  4. Names and contact details of two professional references.

The selection process will include:

  • A review of submitted materials.
  • A short virtual or in-person interview.
  • A task-based assessment involving content planning or sample post creation.

We aim to fill this role within 4–6 weeks, and shortlisted candidates will be notified by email or phone.
