Sales Engineer – Gampaha

Job Description: Sales Engineer – Gampaha

We are currently hiring a Sales Engineer to join our team in Gampaha. This is a hands-on role combining technical knowledge with commercial responsibility. The position involves direct interaction with customers, site visits, preparation of proposals, and working closely with the internal technical team to ensure timely and accurate project execution.

You will be required to understand client needs in detail, match them with appropriate products or solutions, and ensure those recommendations are both technically sound and financially viable. This role demands clear communication, thorough planning, and the ability to follow up consistently.

Position Summary:

As a Sales Engineer, you will serve as the technical contact point for customers during the sales process. You will be expected to explain complex technical products or services in simple terms, assist in solution design, and ensure client expectations are aligned with deliverables.

Your main goal will be to secure new business, grow existing accounts, and contribute to long-term relationships through reliability and clarity. This is not a desk-only job—frequent site visits, customer discussions, and coordination with engineering and logistics teams are part of your routine.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Sales and Client Management

  • Identify potential clients in the assigned region and introduce suitable technical solutions.
  • Conduct client meetings, presentations, and follow-ups in person and virtually.
  • Prepare and submit quotations, tenders, and project proposals accurately and on time.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms with clients in line with company policy and profit margins.
  • Provide post-sales support to ensure client satisfaction and manage expectations clearly.

2. Technical Consultation

  • Understand the client’s technical needs and suggest appropriate solutions based on site conditions and project goals.
  • Conduct preliminary assessments and work with design or engineering teams for more complex projects.
  • Ensure your technical recommendations are feasible, sustainable, and fit within budget constraints.

3. Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with internal departments (engineering, procurement, logistics) to deliver what has been promised.
  • Track and follow up on each stage of the sales pipeline, from inquiry to installation or delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of quotations, orders, client communications, and timelines.

4. Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on sales activity, forecasts, and market trends.
  • Maintain client records and opportunity tracking through the company CRM or reporting tools.
  • Document lessons learned from completed projects to improve future performance.

5. Market Research

  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and pricing models in the Gampaha region and surrounding areas.
  • Recommend product or service improvements based on field feedback and observed client demands.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or a related technical field).
  • At least 2–4 years of proven experience in sales or technical consultation roles.
  • Experience working with industrial clients, contractors, or engineering firms is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (especially Excel and Word), email communication, and basic CRM usage.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel across the region as needed.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Based in or near Gampaha, with a strong understanding of the local business environment.
  • A methodical and well-organized approach to handling multiple clients and tasks.
  • Clear communicator in Sinhala and English. Tamil is an added benefit, especially for regional outreach.
  • Comfortable working under deadlines, managing follow-ups, and resolving minor disputes constructively.
  • Technically curious and willing to learn new products or systems.

Work Conditions:

  • This role is primarily field-based with regular travel across Gampaha and nearby districts.
  • Office reporting required 2–3 times a week for team meetings, reporting, and coordination.
  • Standard hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM. Occasional Saturday work depending on client needs or site schedules.
  • Field visits may involve outdoor work, site assessments, or meeting clients at various times of day.
  • The company provides transport allowance or reimbursement for travel where applicable.

What We Expect From You:

  • A reliable individual who keeps their word and follows up until tasks are completed.
  • You understand technical solutions but are also comfortable discussing commercial terms.
  • You take initiative when things aren’t moving and ask for help when it’s needed.
  • You respect client timelines, internal processes, and your team’s input.
  • You maintain accurate records and don’t rely on memory alone for client tracking.

What You Can Expect From Us:

  • A stable and supportive team that values practical performance over showmanship.
  • Clear product training, technical support, and assistance with proposal development.
  • Fair compensation, timely expense reimbursements, and a transparent incentive structure.
  • Regular communication with leadership, with open doors for feedback and improvement.
  • Opportunities for growth into senior roles, project management, or specialized product areas based on your strengths.

Who Should Apply:

This role suits:

  • Technically-minded professionals who enjoy being out in the field and talking directly with customers.
  • Individuals who are good at planning their own schedules and managing multiple leads at once.
  • Those who have worked in engineering, construction, manufacturing, or utility-related sales.
  • People based in or familiar with the Gampaha region and willing to be available for local visits as needed.
  • Candidates who are looking for a stable, long-term opportunity with room to grow.

Avoid applying if:

  • You prefer only desk-based work or dislike field visits.
  • You are not comfortable engaging in pricing or commercial discussions with clients.
  • You are not able to travel on short notice within the region when required.
  • You expect a large team to handle all technical or proposal support independently—we believe in shared responsibility.

Application Process:

To apply, please send the following:

  1. Updated CV with details of your technical and sales experience.
  2. A short cover letter explaining why you’re interested in this role and what kind of technical sales you’ve handled before.
  3. Names and contact details of two recent professional references.
  4. Any relevant certifications or project portfolios (optional but encouraged).

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted within 10 working days for an initial interview. The final round may include a technical and/or scenario-based discussion to assess your real-world problem-solving approach.
