Key Duties

The City of Gainesville’s Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) is seeking a skilled Production Technician to support operations at the Kelly Plant. This role involves hands-on technical, mechanical, electrical, and control system work in a power generation environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating, monitoring, and maintaining plant equipment and systems to ensure reliable power generation.

  • Conducting preventive and predictive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation/control systems.

  • Troubleshooting issues with plant equipment, control systems, and instrumentation.

  • Supporting compliance with safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and confined space requirements.

  • Assisting with training, documentation, and providing leadership support during supervisory absences.

  • Collaborating with team members, contractors, and vendors to maintain operational efficiency.

This is a critical role requiring strong technical skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work rotating shifts in a 24-hour operation.


Requirements

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • At least three years of operational and maintenance experience in a process plant such as a utility plant, refinery, chemical plant, power plant, or similar environment.

  • Must demonstrate journey-level knowledge in at least one discipline (operations, mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation/control) and apprentice-level knowledge in another.

Licenses & Skills

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.

  • Ability to recognize hazards, apply safety practices, and work effectively as part of a rotating shift crew.

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and control systems.

  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and tolerate varied environmental conditions.


Pay & Benefits

  • Pay Range: $19.90 – $46.60 per hour.
