Lab Assistant

Job Overview

The Lab Assistant supports the science team in laboratory and classroom work. Under the teacher’s direction, they provide high-quality development assistance to students, including being a co-advisor and substituting classes as needed.

Key qualifications include:
• Knowledge of current lab safety regulations
• Experience working in a science laboratory
• Ability to manage a science laboratory and relevant chemicals & equipment
• Patience and empathy when dealing with children
• Able to address and treat children with respect and dignity
• Willingness to learn and grow under instruction of teaching faculty and in a professional environment
• Ability to work individually and as part of a team
• Experience working with children, preferably in a school environment
• Good interpersonal and communication skills (especially in English)

Responsibilities:
• Preparation of laboratory practicals, including set-up and breakdown as per teachers’ instruction
• Maintenance, cleaning, and storage of equipment
• Safe storage and removal of harmful chemicals and equipment
• Ensure adequate supply of equipment and materials is always available
• Keep track of materials borrowed by teachers and students
• Assisting the teacher in supervision of laboratory practicals when needed
• Support for teachers and other faculty where needed, always keeping the best interests of the students in mind
