Job Description: Hotel Crew Member – Kandy
We are looking for a reliable and professional Hotel Crew Member to join our team in Kandy. This role covers a range of duties necessary to maintain day-to-day hotel operations. Whether you’re welcoming guests, supporting kitchen staff, helping with housekeeping, or assisting in the dining area, your role is essential in ensuring the hotel runs smoothly and guests receive consistent service.
This is a hands-on job that requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a calm, courteous approach when interacting with guests or colleagues. If you’re someone who takes pride in doing your job well and understands the value of teamwork, you’ll find this role both steady and rewarding.
Role Summary
As a Hotel Crew Member, you will support various departments including reception, housekeeping, kitchen, and food service. You will rotate through tasks depending on operational needs and the size of the team. The job demands flexibility, consistency, and a willingness to complete tasks efficiently without unnecessary complications or distractions. You will be expected to follow clear procedures and communicate directly with supervisors and teammates.
This is not a management position or a role that demands fancy terminology or exaggerated expectations. Instead, it’s about doing the work that keeps a hotel functioning and guests comfortable—whether that means cleaning a room properly, delivering food on time, or ensuring the front desk runs without confusion.
Key Responsibilities
1. Front Desk Support
- Greet guests in a polite, respectful manner.
- Check guests in and out accurately using hotel systems.
- Handle basic guest inquiries, calls, and requests without delay.
- Record and relay guest feedback, complaints, or special needs to supervisors.
- Manage room key distribution, bookings, and documentation as required.
2. Housekeeping Duties
- Clean and prepare guest rooms to a high standard, including changing linens, vacuuming, dusting, and restocking supplies.
- Report any maintenance issues (e.g., broken fixtures, plumbing problems) to the appropriate department.
- Clean common areas such as lobbies, hallways, restrooms, and elevators.
- Follow safety guidelines when using cleaning materials and handling waste.
3. Kitchen and Food Service Support
- Assist with basic food preparation under kitchen supervision (e.g., washing, chopping, arranging).
- Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and surfaces thoroughly and regularly.
- Help serve food or beverages in the dining area, room service, or event space when assigned.
- Maintain hygiene and food safety practices according to hotel procedures.
4. Laundry Operations
- Collect, wash, dry, fold, and distribute linen and uniforms as needed.
- Monitor laundry supplies and notify supervisors when restocking is needed.
- Keep the laundry area clean and machines in good working condition.
5. Stock and Supply Management
- Refill cleaning supplies, toiletries, and mini-bar items in guest rooms or service areas.
- Help with loading and unloading deliveries and organizing storerooms.
- Inform the supervisor when stock levels are low or items are damaged or missing.
6. Team Collaboration
- Work as part of a multi-functional team to support daily operations.
- Rotate between tasks as assigned by supervisors based on hotel needs.
- Be available to assist other departments during busy periods or special events.
7. Safety and Security
- Follow the hotel’s safety and emergency procedures without delay or shortcuts.
- Report suspicious activity or unsafe conditions to the appropriate person immediately.
- Ensure personal conduct and work areas meet safety and hygiene standards at all times.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum GCE O/L qualification or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a hotel, restaurant, or customer-facing role is preferred but not required.
- Ability to communicate clearly in Sinhala and/or Tamil. Basic English is an advantage.
- Physically able to carry out cleaning and manual tasks for extended periods.
- Comfortable working flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Able to follow instructions, complete tasks independently, and ask for help when needed.
- Must be punctual, honest, and respectful with colleagues and guests.
Working Conditions
- This is a full-time, shift-based role. Shifts may include mornings, evenings, weekends, or public holidays.
- Uniforms will be provided and are required to be worn on duty.
- Meals may be provided during shifts based on company policy.
- Most duties are physical in nature—standing, walking, bending, and lifting are daily requirements.
What We Expect From You
This role does not require you to be highly polished or make exaggerated promises to guests. Instead, we want someone dependable, respectful, and practical. You don’t need to be a hospitality expert to do this job well—you just need to do what you say you’ll do, take care of your work area, and treat people fairly.
You will be part of a team that values doing things properly over doing things quickly. If you can handle your responsibilities without cutting corners and you treat both guests and coworkers with respect, you will fit in well here.
What You Can Expect From Us
- A straightforward work environment where expectations are clearly defined.
- Training and support to help you succeed in your assigned tasks.
- Fair wages and reasonable working hours.
- A team that works together and values practical support over office politics.
- Opportunities to learn and move into other roles based on performance and interest.
Who Should Apply
This role is suitable for individuals who:
- Prefer clear, structured tasks and consistent work.
- Are comfortable working behind the scenes or directly with guests.
- Are not looking for titles, but for stable, honest work with room to grow.
- Want to be part of a hotel team that focuses on day-to-day execution, not empty slogans.
You don’t need to impress anyone with big ideas—you just need to do your part reliably and be open to learning.
Application Process
To apply, please submit:
- A current resume with your contact information.
- A short note about why you’re applying and what experience you can bring.
- Names and contact information for two references (if available).
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. Basic tests or work simulations may be part of the selection process.
Final Notes
Working in a hotel isn’t about impressing people with words—it’s about showing up, doing your job properly, and being dependable. This role supports almost every part of hotel operations, so your attention to detail and willingness to help where needed will make a big difference to both our team and our guests.
If you want honest work in a respected hotel environment in Kandy, and you’re ready to contribute from day one, we look forward to hearing from you.
