FMCG Executive – Colombo

Job Description: FMCG Executive – Colombo

We are currently looking for a results-driven and detail-oriented individual to join our Sales and Distribution team in Colombo as an FMCG Executive. This role is focused on managing fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) product lines across designated territories or retail channels, ensuring consistent product availability, timely replenishment, and meeting revenue goals through effective sales and distribution strategies.

If you are someone who understands the ground realities of retail dynamics, can work with data and people equally well, and is focused on tangible outcomes, this position offers a solid platform to grow your career in the FMCG sector.

Position Summary:

The FMCG Executive will act as the operational link between the company’s sales strategies and market execution. This involves overseeing product movement from warehouse to shelf, coordinating with sales teams, distributors, and retail partners, and ensuring that all targets related to product availability, visibility, and market share are met.

You’ll be directly involved in territory coverage, retail audits, and relationship management, and will provide accurate reporting to support broader sales planning. You must be someone who can think on your feet, manage a dynamic workload, and maintain consistent performance across varying conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales Execution & Performance
    • Drive product sales within assigned regions to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual targets.
    • Monitor and report on daily, weekly, and monthly sales metrics.
    • Conduct regular retail visits to ensure compliance with planogram, pricing, and display standards.
  • Territory Management
    • Develop route plans and retail coverage strategies based on market demand and sales data.
    • Identify gaps in retail coverage and work to close them through new customer acquisition or route optimization.
  • Stock and Inventory Oversight
    • Monitor stock levels at the distributor and retail levels, ensuring replenishment cycles are maintained.
    • Work with logistics teams to avoid overstocking or stockouts.
  • Market Intelligence
    • Track competitor activities, pricing strategies, promotions, and customer preferences.
    • Provide timely feedback to the central sales and marketing teams.
  • Distributor & Retailer Relationship Management
    • Build and maintain working relationships with distributors, sub-dealers, and key retail accounts.
    • Resolve issues related to deliveries, payments, or customer complaints swiftly and professionally.
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Maintain accurate records of visits, orders, issues, and performance metrics.
    • Submit daily and weekly reports to supervisors in agreed formats.

Required Qualifications:

  • A diploma or degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in sales or operations in the FMCG sector.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Excel and standard sales tracking tools.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel within assigned territories.
  • Fluency in Sinhala and English; Tamil language skills are an added advantage.
  • Comfortable with fieldwork and meeting customers regularly.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Practical understanding of distribution systems, product rotation, and shelf-life management.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, particularly with retailers and distributors.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Disciplined time management and the ability to work independently.
  • Adaptability to work across urban and semi-urban market conditions.
  • Ability to handle rejection or pressure without loss of motivation.

Work Conditions:

  • Based in Colombo, with regular travel to retail and distributor locations across the district or province.
  • Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM; however, occasional weekend availability may be required for campaigns or audits.
  • Work involves a combination of office-based planning and extensive field visits (at least 70% field-based).
  • All transport-related expenses for field visits are covered as per company policy.
  • You may be required to lift or handle light merchandise during display setups or retail arrangements.

What We Expect From You:

  • Accountability
We expect you to take full ownership of your targets, routes, and results. Excuses are less valuable to us than clear updates and corrective actions.
  • Attention to Detail
Whether it’s reporting stock levels, monitoring price compliance, or recording visits, accuracy is crucial.
  • Consistency in Communication
Keep your supervisors informed. Silence or missed updates are noticed just as much as performance.
  • Problem Solving
We want people who don’t just report problems but propose reasonable, actionable solutions.
  • Team Collaboration
Though you’ll work independently in the field, you must stay aligned with the broader team’s strategy and timelines.

What You Can Expect From Us:

  • Clear Structure and Expectations
You’ll receive onboarding, training on company systems, and clarity on what’s expected in your role.
  • Supportive Supervision
Area Managers and support teams are available to help you resolve on-ground issues and improve your performance.
  • Timely Compensation and Benefits
We value your effort and ensure that all payments, incentives, and reimbursements are made on time.
  • Professional Development
Good performers will be considered for roles in territory management, area sales management, or brand activation teams.
  • Respect for Your Work
Field roles can be demanding. We recognize and appreciate consistent effort, punctuality, and reliability.

Who Should Apply:

  • Candidates with previous FMCG experience who want to deepen their skills in sales execution and territory management.
  • Early-career professionals with solid interpersonal skills, looking to grow in a structured, measurable environment.
  • Those with a strong sense of personal discipline, target orientation, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Individuals based in or near Colombo, with good local area knowledge and the flexibility to travel daily.
  • People who prefer active, hands-on work over office-bound tasks.
