Job Description: Accountant – Kandy
We are looking for an Accountant to join our finance team in Kandy. This role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and a commitment to managing financial records accurately. The role involves overseeing day-to-day financial transactions, maintaining ledgers, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
The Accountant will be part of a small but focused team tasked with supporting the organization’s financial integrity and operational efficiency. This role is essential to keeping our accounting systems accurate, up to date, and fully aligned with our business objectives.
Position Summary:
As an Accountant, your core responsibility is to ensure that financial records are kept correctly and in compliance with local accounting standards. You will handle general ledger entries, prepare monthly financial statements, manage reconciliations, assist with budgeting and forecasting, and support audits when necessary.
You will work closely with internal departments such as operations, HR, procurement, and management to maintain clarity and accuracy in financial reporting. This position demands both technical accounting competence and the ability to communicate clearly with non-finance stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update general ledger accounts, journals, and supporting documentation.
- Record all financial transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Reconcile bank statements, supplier accounts, and other control accounts.
- Assist with the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Manage petty cash, payroll entries, and statutory deductions.
- Prepare VAT, PAYE, EPF/ETF, and other statutory returns.
- Coordinate with auditors during internal and external audits.
- Monitor and report variances from the budget.
- Maintain clear records for tax filing and compliance purposes.
- Ensure financial data confidentiality and backup financial records regularly.
- Communicate with vendors and clients on payment matters where necessary.
- Identify discrepancies and report to management with recommendations.
Required Qualifications:
- A recognized qualification in Accounting or Finance (e.g., AAT, CMA, CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent).
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
- Familiarity with Sri Lankan accounting regulations and tax systems.
- Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Tally, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of Excel, including formulas and data organization tools.
- Competence in preparing and analyzing financial statements.
- Clear understanding of bookkeeping procedures and reconciliation processes.
- Ability to meet deadlines consistently.

- Use of accounting tools and ERP systems provided; training will be offered if needed.
- Direct reporting line to the Finance Manager, with access to upper management for guidance or clarification.
