Job description – Leading Purchasing Expert

Purchasing Strategist

As a Purchasing Strategist, you will play a vital role in leading the procurement of materials and services essential to the successful execution of Oil & Gas projects. You will oversee pre-award activities such as market analysis, supplier evaluation, and contract negotiation through to award.

You will provide hands-on functional guidance and coaching to the procurement team, ensuring alignment with project goals and procurement best practices.

Your key responsibilities will include executing procurement strategies, providing functional support to Procurement Engineers, and collaborating with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to understand project specifications and procurement needs.

You will source and evaluate potential suppliers, conducting market research and supplier assessments to identify qualified suppliers. You will negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing agreements with suppliers to achieve the best commercial outcome for the project.

You will manage the procurement process from requisition to delivery, including issuing purchase orders, tracking shipments, and resolving delivery issues.

You will monitor supplier performance, report and escalate any supplier performance issues or non-conformances.

You will identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings in procurement operations. You will assist in the implementation of process improvements.

You will provide guidance and support to junior supply chain staff, mentoring them on procurement processes, supplier management, and negotiation tactics.

You will maintain accurate procurement records and documentation, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of procurement and expediting processes in the EPC Oil & Gas industry. They will have experience managing major complex procurement packages and possess strong communication skills, with the ability to manage relationships with internal teams and external suppliers.

They will have in-depth understanding of procurement and expediting processes, ERP knowledge, preferably SAP functional skills are a requirement to be successful in this role.

The ideal candidate will also have excellent analytical abilities to evaluate supplier proposals, conduct cost analysis, and identify opportunities for cost savings.
