This is a customer-facing role that requires attention to detail, consistent punctuality, and the ability to handle day-to-day guest interactions with care and professionalism. You will be the first and last point of contact for guests—making your role central to their experience.

If you are someone who works well under pressure, communicates clearly, and believes in maintaining a clean and organized front desk, this role may be a good fit for you. Prior hotel experience is preferred, but not strictly required for the right candidate.

Position Summary:

As a Hotel Receptionist, your primary responsibility is to manage the front desk, handle check-ins and check-outs, assist guests with inquiries, and ensure that the reception area functions smoothly during your shift. This role involves close coordination with housekeeping, security, and management.

You will operate booking systems, update records, and act as the main communication point between guests and the hotel staff. The role demands reliability, clear communication, and a calm, organized approach to service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome guests warmly upon arrival, verify reservations, and issue room keys.
  • Manage guest check-ins and check-outs efficiently using hotel management software.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of bookings, payments, and guest preferences.
  • Answer phone calls professionally and handle guest inquiries or forward them to the relevant departments.
  • Resolve guest concerns or problems quickly and tactfully, keeping management informed when needed.
  • Communicate with housekeeping to confirm room availability and cleanliness status.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and presentable front desk area at all times.
  • Monitor guest access and coordinate with security during night shifts if necessary.
  • Handle basic billing processes and issue invoices or receipts when required.
  • Record guest feedback and suggestions for management review.
  • Monitor lobby activity discreetly and maintain the privacy and security of guests.
  • Assist guests with local directions, transport arrangements, or general queries.
  • Support administrative tasks as assigned by the Front Office Manager.

Required Qualifications:

  • Male applicants only, due to accommodation and shift coverage needs.
  • Minimum G.C.E. O/L qualification with passes in English and Mathematics.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English; Sinhala or Tamil is an added advantage.
  • Basic computer literacy, especially in MS Office and email handling.
  • Familiarity with hotel reservation software (training will be provided if necessary).
  • Availability to work rotating shifts, including weekends, public holidays, and night duties.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Previous experience in a similar hospitality or customer service role.
  • A clear, confident speaking voice and courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to remain calm and helpful in high-pressure or fast-paced situations.
  • Willingness to assist guests from various backgrounds with respect and discretion.
  • Sound organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Trustworthiness and the ability to handle confidential guest information responsibly.
  • Good memory for guest preferences and attention to small details.

Work Conditions:

  • Based on-site at our Katunayake hotel property.
  • Standard shift rotations include morning (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM), afternoon (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM), and night (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM).
  • A uniform will be provided and must be worn during duty hours.
  • Accommodation can be arranged if needed for night shifts or out-of-town employees.
  • Meals during shifts are provided.
  • The role requires long periods of standing and occasional handling of luggage or packages.

What We Expect From You:

  • Show up on time and in uniform, ready to start each shift fully prepared.
  • Maintain professionalism in behavior, speech, and appearance.
  • Pay attention to details—whether entering data, greeting a guest, or coordinating with housekeeping.
  • Keep calm during busy hours or challenging guest interactions.
  • Follow hotel procedures accurately, especially when handling guest information or payments.
  • Take pride in representing the hotel. Your tone, language, and appearance set the standard.
  • Be flexible with your shift schedule and ready to fill in during unexpected absences or busy seasons.

What You Can Expect From Us:

  • Clear instructions, a supportive management team, and fair expectations.
  • Training on hotel systems, customer service etiquette, and safety procedures.
  • Opportunities for promotion to senior front desk roles or guest relations positions, depending on performance.
  • Timely payment of salary and contributions to EPF/ETF.
  • Paid leave and staff welfare activities, based on company policy.
  • A work culture that respects consistency, honesty, and reliability over flashiness or flair.
  • Open-door communication—you can speak directly with supervisors about any concerns or ideas.

Who Should Apply:

This position is ideal for individuals who:

  • Are based in or around Katunayake or are willing to relocate with assistance.
  • Are interested in stable, long-term employment in the hospitality industry.

Avoid applying if:

  • You are unable to work night shifts or weekends.
  • You do not feel comfortable working in a guest-facing role.
  • You expect to use this job as a stepping stone into unrelated industries.
