Job Description: Sales Marketing Manager – Colombo
We are seeking a Sales Marketing Manager to take ownership of the combined sales and marketing strategy across our operations based in Colombo. The role involves managing day-to-day sales activities, shaping marketing plans, leading a small team, and ensuring that revenue targets and customer growth are achieved consistently.
This position is suited for someone who understands the Sri Lankan market, can work closely with operations and product teams, and isn’t afraid to step in and handle fieldwork, client discussions, or campaign planning. The right person will know how to convert goals into actions, keep their team on track, and hold themselves accountable to numbers—not just ideas.
Position Summary:
The Sales Marketing Manager is responsible for planning and executing initiatives that directly support business growth. This includes overseeing lead generation, customer acquisition, branding efforts, and B2B/B2C relationship management. You’ll coordinate the sales team, manage marketing campaigns, and track both short- and long-term performance.
You will need a balanced approach—strategic enough to plan ahead, but hands-on enough to execute. This is a leadership role, but it requires direct involvement. You’ll work with internal teams, clients, vendors, and partners regularly, and you’ll be expected to provide clear updates to senior management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Sales Management
- Develop and implement clear monthly and quarterly sales plans based on business goals.
- Monitor daily sales operations, review team performance, and ensure targets are realistic and met.
- Identify opportunities in the market and develop practical approaches to tap into them.
- Visit key clients regularly to build and maintain long-term business relationships.
- Negotiate pricing, proposals, and terms with clients in coordination with the finance team.
2. Marketing Oversight
- Create marketing strategies aligned with sales targets and product positioning.
- Plan and supervise digital and traditional marketing campaigns (social media, flyers, trade shows, etc.).
- Work with designers and content teams to develop relevant promotional materials.
- Ensure consistency in brand messaging across all platforms and customer touchpoints.
3. Team Leadership and Coordination
- Supervise and mentor a team of sales executives and marketing assistants.
- Conduct regular team briefings, goal reviews, and one-on-one progress checks.
- Support staff development through performance feedback and training where needed.
4. Reporting and Analysis
- Maintain accurate records of customer data, campaign results, and sales outcomes.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports for management review, with clear analysis and next steps.
- Use data to assess performance, identify weak points, and adjust course as necessary.
5. Market and Competitor Research
- Stay informed on market trends, customer behavior, and competitor activity.
- Gather feedback from clients and sales staff to refine offerings and marketing direction.
- Recommend improvements to products, pricing strategies, or communications based on evidence, not assumption.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in sales or marketing, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets and managing marketing campaigns.
- Strong knowledge of Sri Lankan market dynamics and customer segments.
- Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Excel, Google Ads, Meta Business Suite, and CRM systems.
Preferred Attributes:
- Clear communicator in both Sinhala and English; Tamil is a plus.
- Confident presenter, capable of leading internal meetings and external client discussions.
- Practical problem-solver—able to address real-world business challenges calmly.
- Respectful team leader who balances task execution with staff motivation.
- Well-organized, able to handle multiple responsibilities without needing micromanagement.
Work Conditions:
- Based at the Colombo head office with regular field visits and occasional outstation travel.
- Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Weekend work may be required depending on campaign activity or urgent client needs.
- Office-based work includes planning, coordination, reporting, and communication. Fieldwork may involve client visits or monitoring retail/display setups.
- You’ll be required to maintain accurate documentation, attend management meetings, and be available for urgent decision-making when needed.
What We Expect From You:
- You take ownership of your responsibilities and deliver on time.
- You’re firm when necessary but fair with your team and clients.
- You work with data—not just opinions—when making decisions.
- You adapt to challenges calmly and find solutions without overcomplicating.
- You are proactive, not reactive—you plan ahead, follow through, and communicate clearly.
What You Can Expect From Us:
- A stable company with a growing presence in the local market and realistic expectations.
- Direct access to decision-makers, without unnecessary bureaucracy.
- A structured environment where responsibilities are clear and results are rewarded.
- Fair pay, prompt support, and respect for your professional input.
- Opportunities to develop leadership skills, expand into new markets, or lead new product initiatives over time.
Who Should Apply:
This position is ideal for:
- Sales professionals who have also worked on or overseen marketing campaigns.
- Candidates who are confident managing people and projects simultaneously.
- Individuals already based in Colombo or willing to relocate for a long-term role.
- Those who understand local market behavior and know how to tailor messages and sales strategies accordingly.
- Professionals who are tired of overpromising, underdelivering cultures and want to work in a grounded, realistic, performance-based environment.
You may want to reconsider applying if:
- You prefer desk-only jobs and are not comfortable with field involvement or direct client interaction.
- You rely heavily on large teams to execute tasks or need frequent external agency support.
- You are not prepared to work outside of standard hours during high-demand periods.
Application Process:
To apply, please send:
- A detailed CV outlining your sales and marketing experience, leadership roles, and results achieved.
- A short cover letter explaining why this role suits your skills and what you would aim to improve or focus on within your first three months.
- Contact details of two professional references who can speak to your experience in sales/marketing leadership.
- Any portfolio samples or campaign results (optional, but appreciated).
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an initial interview. Final selection may include a task-based assessment or presentation of a marketing proposal, depending on the background and role requirements.
Final Word:
We’re not looking for slogans or fluff. We want someone who can plan, lead, and deliver—on time, with purpose, and with integrity. If you understand that sales and marketing are not just about creativity but also about discipline and follow-through, this is the kind of team you’ll fit into.
This is a role where you’ll be judged by results—but you’ll also be supported with the tools and autonomy to reach them. If you’re ready for clear expectations, direct communication, and a team that values outcomes over talk, we’d like to hear from you.
