Job Title: Junior Graphic Designer – Kandy
Position Summary
We are hiring a Junior Graphic Designer to join our creative team based in Kandy. This role is intended for someone with a working knowledge of design tools, a sharp eye for layout, and a willingness to follow clear direction. The position is hands-on and task-oriented, offering real experience in commercial design. It’s not about being a creative genius or standing out with flamboyant concepts—this is about learning the process, executing quality work, and supporting the design team to meet client or internal briefs on time.
This is a suitable role for someone at the beginning of their design career who understands the basics and is ready to grow by doing the work rather than talking about it.
Main Responsibilities
1. Design Production
- Create digital and print-ready materials such as social media graphics, brochures, posters, packaging mock-ups, advertisements, and internal brand collateral.
- Assist in preparing layouts, resizing assets, and reformatting designs for various formats.
- Follow established brand guidelines and apply them consistently across deliverables.
- Ensure final designs are accurate, aligned with specifications, and delivered on time.
2. Support Senior Designers
- Work under the direct supervision of a Senior Graphic Designer or Creative Lead.
- Take constructive feedback positively and make revisions without unnecessary back-and-forth.
- Participate in team reviews and attend design discussions to understand expectations.
- Assist in file organization, asset tagging, and maintaining proper naming conventions.
3. File Handling and Asset Management
- Maintain an orderly and clear filing system for all project files, drafts, and final outputs.
- Prepare files in proper formats for both print and digital platforms.
- Ensure that artwork is optimized for its intended use (e.g., high-resolution for print, lightweight formats for web).
4. Collaboration
- Work closely with other departments such as marketing, content, and web development to meet shared project goals.
- Communicate clearly about timelines, requirements, and any blockers that arise.
- Be available to support multiple small projects at once without losing track of details.
5. Learning and Skill Development
- Stay familiar with current design tools, best practices, and technical standards.
- Observe how senior team members approach client briefs, revisions, and feedback.
- Actively seek opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in your workflow.
Required Qualifications
Education
- A diploma or certificate in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field.
- A degree is an advantage but not mandatory for candidates with a strong portfolio and work ethic.
Experience
- 0–2 years of professional or internship experience in a design role.
- A portfolio that includes academic, freelance, or personal projects that show practical design skills (layout, typography, color use).
Technical Skills
- Basic proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
- Familiarity with Canva, Figma, or CorelDRAW is a plus but not required.
- Understanding of image formats, resolution, print requirements, and design file preparation.
- Basic knowledge of typography, layout structure, and image treatment.
Key Attributes
- Attention to Detail: You don’t need to be a perfectionist, but you should care about spacing, alignment, and consistency.
- Willingness to Learn: You should be open to feedback, revisions, and new methods of working.
- Time Management: Able to handle multiple tasks with realistic timelines and minimal reminders.
- Reliability: Shows up on time, completes work by deadlines, and communicates clearly when help is needed.
- Team-Oriented: Understands their role in a team and supports others without needing the spotlight.
Working Environment
- Based at our Kandy office, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
- Some remote work may be allowed depending on project timelines and performance.
- Occasional weekend work or extended hours may be required during tight deadlines or campaign periods.
- You’ll be working in a small design team within a broader marketing or communications department.
Performance Expectations
By the end of Month 1:
- Understand the company’s brand guidelines, file management system, and project workflow.
- Be able to support small internal tasks with supervision.
By the end of Month 3:
- Produce complete design pieces with minimal correction needed.
- Handle basic print and digital materials independently.
By Month 6:
- Support the team across multiple concurrent projects with speed and accuracy.
- Begin offering creative input when appropriate, always grounded in client needs or briefs.
Remuneration and Benefits
- A fixed monthly salary, based on qualifications and experience.
- EPF/ETF contributions as per labor regulations.
- Annual performance review with potential for salary adjustment and role development.
- On-the-job training and guidance from senior staff.
- Paid annual leave, sick leave, and other statutory benefits.
- Use of design resources, access to licensed software, and occasional skill development workshops.
What This Role Is Not
This is not a conceptual or art director role. You are not expected to lead branding exercises, present pitches to clients, or manage external accounts. Instead, you are expected to listen, apply design principles, manage your files responsibly, and contribute to a fast-moving production pipeline where quality and accuracy matter more than flash.
This role is built for someone who wants to earn their experience by learning the proper way to handle deadlines, manage files, and work within brand rules—before moving into higher-level design roles in the future.
Application Process
To apply, please send the following:
- Your CV, highlighting any academic or project experience related to design.
- A portfolio (PDF or link) showing 5–8 pieces of original work, including school, freelance, or personal projects.
- A brief cover letter (1 page max) telling us why you’re interested in this role and what you hope to learn from it.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a design test and a one-on-one interview.
Equal Opportunity Statement
We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will be considered regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity, age, or background. We value skill, reliability, and a willingness to grow.
